In this city, drainage is everything

In Houston, streets serve as the first stage of the drainage system. Moore Clean runs street sweeping routes across the region: commercial frontage along Westheimer and the Galleria district, HOA streets in Katy, Sugar Land, Cypress and The Woodlands, and corridor routes along I-10, US-59, I-45, Loop 610, Beltway 8 and the Grand Parkway, reaching into Fort Bend and Montgomery counties. Across the region, street sweeping carries an additional responsibility: keeping storm inlets clear and functioning.

Flat terrain, clay soil, and gulf rain mean debris doesn’t wash away here. It washes in, to the nearest storm inlet, and from there to the bayous. Regular power sweeping lifts sediment, leaves, and litter off the curb line before the rain does, which is why the Harris County Flood Control District counts source control among the practices that keep the county’s 2,500 miles of channels working.

Growth adds to the load. The Houston area is among the fastest-growing regions in the country according to U.S. Census Bureau population estimates, and more people bring more vehicles, more construction, and more sediment and litter to the gutter.

We sweep with regenerative-air trucks, among them Schwarze A7 Tornado, A4 Storm, and TYMCO 435 class street sweepers. These machines vacuum the fine sediment that would otherwise be pushed to the next block and then into an inlet. The fleet also carries Schwarze M6 Avalanche mechanical broom sweepers for storm debris. See our guide on how street sweepers work for the technical difference. At retail centers, frontage sweeping is commonly scheduled with parking lot sweeping so that street and lot are finished in one overnight visit.

Why it matters

Why does street sweeping matter more in Houston and the Gulf Coast region?

Street sweeping matters in Houston because the city floods from the curb up. When gutters and inlets are packed with sediment and litter, rain that should drain ponds instead, on your frontage, in your lot, at your tenants’ doors. Sweeping is the maintenance practice that keeps the top of the drainage system open, and it’s recognized on the EPA’s national menu of stormwater BMPs and in TxDOT’s stormwater program for exactly that reason.

Everything a sweeper captures is material that never reaches Buffalo Bayou or the county’s channel network, the infrastructure the Harris County Flood Control District maintains. Our routes are GPS-logged with service reports, so your property’s contribution to keeping that system clear is documented, not assumed.

Lane closure during roadway maintenance on a Houston route

From Downtown and Midtown out through The Heights, Bellaire, and Pearland, and west to the Energy Corridor, Katy, and Cypress. Overnight windows keep sweepers clear of daytime traffic on the loops, and post-storm sweeps clear gravel and vegetation off commercial streets before the debris finds an inlet. Hurricane-season standby is available for portfolios that need a response window.

Questions

Houston street sweeping FAQ

Do you sweep master-planned community and HOA streets?

Yes. Communities in Katy, Sugar Land, The Woodlands, and Cypress are core territory for us. Boards typically run monthly or quarterly routes covering the full curb line, cul-de-sacs included, with service reports for the management file. Streets that drain to community detention ponds benefit twice: cleaner curbs and less sediment settling in the pond.

Can you sweep after storms or during hurricane season?

That’s when Houston needs it most. Post-storm sweeps clear silt, vegetation, and debris off commercial streets before they wash into inlets or become hazards. For managed portfolios we offer seasonal standby arrangements so you’re on the route list before the storm makes landfall, not after.

When do routes run?

Mostly overnight and early morning, with empty curb lines, no parked cars on commercial frontage, and clean pavement before business hours. Houston’s loops and arterials are also simply safer to sweep at 3 AM than at rush hour.

What equipment do you use?

Our routes use regenerative-air sweepers such as the Schwarze A7 Tornado and TYMCO 435 class machines. Air is blasted into the pavement and the debris is vacuumed back, so the fine sediment a mechanical broom misses is collected. On flat Houston grades, that fine fraction would otherwise sit in the gutter until the next rain carries it to an inlet.
